Welcome to the YPSEA multiply account! ;-)
On this site, all pictures of YPSEA activities (and also those of member-organizations who want to share photos of their country activities!) will be stored so that this can easily be shared with member-organizations and friends. You can also post statements and announcements via this site.
The Young Progressives Southeast Asia (YPSEA) is a regional organization of young progressives aimed at creating political exchange and communication in order to promote democracy, equality and human rights in Southeast Asia. The network first came together in Manila in 2004 and its structure was formally set up in 2006 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Its membership consists of progressive youth groups from Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia.Timor Leste currently has observer status.
The YPSEA is...
...for providing a venue for exchanging ideas, strengthening unities and developing strategies to advance democratization in SEA;
...a venue for developing skills and strengthening capacities of young people and progressive organizations to effectively engage in political processes in their own countries and in the SEA region;
...a mechanism for establishing solidarity ties among progressive young people in the region;
...for providing a platform for progressive politics and youth participation at the national and regional levels; and,
...for converging efforts and forces for collective action.
(The lines below are from the Preamble of the YPSEA Constitution, 2006)
We, young progressives from Southeast Asia,
Affirming the fundamental ideals of democracy and equality,
Promoting regional cooperation and solidarity among Southeast Asian youth,
Advocating for the youth’s meaningful participation in national and regional bodies,
Asserting the crucial role of the youth in shaping the future of the region and world,
Do ordain and promulgate this constitution.
